Welcome to the Grünau regatta site!

Welcome to Grünau! We invite you to take a walk on the Grünau regatta grounds. This acoustic panorama, encompassing 16 stations, provides insights, views and retrospectives in which athletes, contemporary witnesses and experts will have their say. Veronika Springmann, director of the Berlin Sports Museum, welcomes you to this place where sports and urban history are closely interwoven.

Here, you’ll dive into the beginnings of rowing in Berlin, learn about the Olympic Games during National Socialism, and explore how the political ideologies behind colonialism and sport play off of each other. You’ll also listen to commentary about athletic competitions in the imperial era and in the GDR and learn how the norms and aesthetics of athletic physicality evolved during the 20th century.

Along the way, tune into immersive, contemporary soundscapes from this historic site, which has seen regattas since 1868 and that has been a venue to a world of sport since then.
