"Haus West" was built for the Olympic regattas of 1936 firmly in line with the aesthetic taste of the National Socialist regime — with a large representative terrace and flagpoles visible from afar.
In 1981, during the GDR regime, the terrace was built over and converted into the "Olympiacafé". Today, the Olympic Café houses the interim exhibition of the Watersports Museum, which can be visited here until the opening of the new permanent exhibition in the newly renovated grandstand building.
